I love the saying that if you have have a task that needs to be done, ask a busy person. That’s me, the busy one, always with a couple projects on the go, loving life!
Growing up in Allen, Texas (a suburb of Dallas), I had a wonderful childhood filled with tons of yummy food! With both parents from Australia my culinary experiences were somewhat more diverse to those of some of my classmates. I believe my obsession with baking and cooking started here. My mother was amazing, an Australian version of Martha Stewart! She sewed the most amazing outfits, decorated the house beautifully and boy could she cook. Whenever I’m in the kitchen it makes me think of her.
At 19 I moved to Australia of my great adventure which seemed like a brilliant idea back in high school when people asked me where I was going to go to university… Thankfully it was a brilliant idea and I’ve loved every moment!
I always loved high school, so I guess it makes sense that I have found myself both constantly studying as well as working as a teacher. Complimenting my teaching qualification I am also a qualified Careers Counselor and am very soon hoping to begin my studies to become a qualified Home Economics Teacher. I’m just a bit of an overachiever I know…
I am also extremely passionate about helping others and as corny as it sounds, I know that I am happiest when doing things for other people. Until late last year I was the coordinator for a community meal program which provided a hearty home cooked meal for between 90-110 people each Thursday. For the almost two years in which I was involved, Thursdays became my favourite day of the week! I loved being able to work with other volunteers to find where they could best give back to the community and or course help with the cooking and logistics of preparing that much food in a kitchen smaller than many domestic ones. Beyond all that, there was a simple joy knowing that I was showing God’s love with absolutely no expectation of anything in return. Whilst I am currently without a project I am definitely on the hunt for a new way to give back.
